This Weeks News – 4th Oct

Here is this week’s news :

START TIME

Please remember to arrive at 7:45am for an 8am start on Saturday mornings. We will be starting the warm up at 8am (at the latest) so please arrive in time. And we always welcome help setting up (and packing up) the equipment.

REGIONAL RELAYS

Brooke is taking nominations for the LAQ Regional Relays which are being held on Nov 12th at Bli Bli LAC. This is the only opportunity for athletes to compete as a team (for both track and field events). The nomination form is attached and last date for nominations is Sat Oct 29th. More info can be found here or please just ask one of the committee. We will be practising relays as of this Saturday in place of one of our normal events.

TRI CENTRE CARNIVAL – Oct 15th (8am start)

Maroochy and Bli Bli will be visiting us on Sat Oct 15th for our first Tri Centre carnival. We will be running a slightly modified event program to account for the extra numbers, and we will also include a relay race for all age groups. This is a fun morning with a great atmosphere – no medals, no winners, just good fun with our friends from Bli Bli and Maroochy. We encourage everyone to attend.

COACHING CLINIC – Oct 15th (from 12:30pm)

Following the Tri Centre we have three professional coaches attending to provide additional coaching tips to your children. This FREE clinic is open to all U9 to U17 athletes and will provide specialist coaching in High Jump, Shot Put & Discus, and Hurdles & Sprints. There will also be a session on relay baton changes. The clinic will be finished by about 3:30pm. This is a great opportunity to learn and grow!

One More Sleep!

Only ONE MOE SLEEP to go until the 2016-17 season starts at Nambour Little Athletics. We kick off at 7:45AM TOMORROW with our first Centre Competition of the season.
The weather forecast does not look too good, but even if it is raining we will still be at the clubhouse taking registrations and selling uniforms. Assume that competition is going ahead. If we have to cancel competition due to the weather there will be a post on Facebook and our website.
Don’t forget you can still register online (click here) or you can register at the club. Note that we do NOT have EFTPOS so payment is by cash or bank deposit or get started voucher.
Not sure yet? Try before you buy – you can trial for 2 weeks at the cost of only $2 per week. See you tomorrow!

Sat March 12th – Presentation Day from 8:30AM

Please bring a plate of morning tea for everyone to share. And kids bring a change of clothes (togs might be a good idea) as we will have a giant water slide and dunking machine. Kids do not need to wear their little athletics uniforms this weekend.

The plan for the morning is as follows :

  1. Parents Meeting to wrap up season and nominate the committee for next season (a volunteer to supervise the kids during this meeting would be welcomed).
  2. Presentation of medals and McDonalds certificates to all athletes, presentation of Most Improved and Perpetual Trophies, and farewell to our U17 athletes.
  3. Morning Tea and then finish the morning off with the water slide and dunking machine.

Parents please note that ALL committee positions will be declared vacant at the meeting and nominations will be required for all positions. Here is a list of the main positions that need to be filled :

  • Centre Manager – general coordination of club, run committee meetings, LAQ liaison, Suncoast Regional Committee attendance
  • Asst Centre Manager – assist the Centre Manager, Suncoast Regional Committee attendance
  • Secretary – take minutes at committee meetings, check PO box and distribute correspondence
  • Treasurer – handle all financials, do banking, pay bills, produce monthly financial statements, liaise with auditor
  • Registrar – Coordinate athlete registration process, keep IMG and ResultsHQ databases up to date, accept carnival nominations and submit to LAQ and other centres
  • Records – Enter weekly results into ResultsHQ database, create recording sheets each week
  • Officials Officer – recruit and train new officials
  • Equipment Officer – maintain all equipment and repair/replace as necessary, set up and pack up each week
  • Uniform Officer – maintain stock of uniforms as required
  • Canteen Convenor – run canteen each week, re-stock supplies
  • Coaches – Anyone can coach! The club can assist you with training if you are interested. With Julie having regular commitments officialling in Brisbane we could really do with someone to coach High Jump next season.

Other roles such as publicity, marketing, and sponsorship coordinators are also available.

Please consider putting your hand up for any of these positions. None of them are particularly difficult and you will have help from those who have served on the committee previously.

Last Meet This Saturday

This Saturday March 5th is the last Centre Competition of this season. Please come along and try your hardest to get some late season PBs! We are going to finish the season with a special Handicap 100m race that will involve all athletes from all age groups. There will be 3 or 4 heats, and then a final. This will be held at the end of the morning and should be a fun way to finish the season.

Training this week starts at 4:30pm for all athletes. For the middle distance squad runners please note the later start time this week. This week will be the last general training session. After that training is intended just for those athletes who are attending the State Championships.

And a quick reminder, on Saturday March 12th we will hold our presentation and break up day, starting at 8:30AM. More details next week.

Working Bee – Saturday Morning 27th Feb from 8AM
