JANUARY NEWS :
1. First Week Back is Saturday January 9th at the normal time of 8 am at Nambour. Training will probably start on Weds 13th Jan but double check with Kev and Simone on the 9th.

2. The SunCoast Regional Championships is the main carnival of the season and is being held on Feb 6 and 7 at Caloundra LAC. Here’s some info to keep in mind :
– Regionals is open to U7 to U17 athletes
– Athletes can compete in up to 5 individual events
– U15-U17 athletes who nominate for the pentathlon can also nominate for 2 additional events
– Nomination Fee is $10 flat fee per athlete
– U7 and U8 athletes will all receive a medal
– U9-U17 athletes who finish 1, 2 or 3 will receive a medal on the day
– U9-U17 athletes who finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th qualify to attend the State Championships held in Brisbane in late March
– everyone has to have full and correct uniform at Regionals

Nomination forms are available HERE, or we have copies at the clubhouse. Nominations and payment of the $10 is due on Sat January 23rd – there will be NO nominations accepted after that date.

Unfortunately an event program is not available yet, but it should be pretty similar to last years. Once the draft event program is available it will be posted on the LAQ website HERE. It is a good idea to double check your chosen events against the program to try and avoid clashes, and also to space your events out a bit.

Nambour are again responsible for the Track Marshalling at Regionals. We will need at least one Track Marshall to tick off athletes names for each track event and sort kids into their lane order (the job Hayley did at Relays) as well as 2 or 3 or more Start Marshall helpers to assist Rob to walk the kids out onto the track. Julie, Kev and Dan will also have officials positions during the carnival.

We also will need a Team Manager for the carnival. The Team Manager is responsible for making sure the kids get to their events at the right time, notifying officials if there are event clashes, dealing with any uniform warnings. Not a difficult job at Regionals. Maree has done this for the last few years so if someone else wants to put their hand up and help out it would be appreciated. Maree will help you out!

3. The third Tri Centre Carnival will be held at Maroochy Little A’s on Jan 29th – a Friday Night. This will be our normal meet for that week so there will not be a meet at Nambour that weekend. For those who have not been to a Tri Carnival yet they have been a real success and everyone has enjoyed them. There are extra kids to compete with, lots of adult helpers, and a fun atmosphere with a little bit of extra competitive flavour. We encourage all our athletes who can make this carnival at Maroochy to come along. We will double check with Maroochy that it will be on the Friday night (which is when they normally compete) or on the Saturday, but at this stage it will be the Friday night.
