We have 26 athletes nominated for this weekend’s Suncoast Regional Championships being held at Caloundra Little Athletics. Click here for a list of nominated athletes, their events, and the day/time for the event.

For those attending Regionals please read ALL of the following important information :

  • Plan to arrive 45-60 minutes prior to the planned event start time. Events can be brought forward by up to 30 minutes if the program is running ahead of time. Also note that parking will be at a premium as there is also a netball competition and AFL sign-on occurring in the same precinct. Please find our Team Manager (Maree – ph 0411 759 262) when you arrive.
  • Location is Caloundra Little A’s on the AFL oval on North Street, Caloundra.
  • We will have marquees set up for shade. We aim to be on the western side of the oval.
  • UNIFORMS – Correct uniforms must be worn. Nambour polo shirt with rego number on the front, age patch on the left sleeve, and the Jetstar patch must also be attached either on the right sleeve, or right chest. Shorts or bike pants (girls only) must be bottle green with NO advertising logo’s (cover them with tape if you have to). If boys wear bike pants under their shorts they must be either green or black and can have NO manufacturers logo’s visible (wear them inside out if there are logo’s). Be aware that officials will be checking uniforms and there are such things as uniform warnings.
  • SPIKES – U11 to U17 can wear spiked shoes in all laned events up to 400m. U13 to U17 can wear spikes is unlaned events (ie 800m+). Spikes must NOT be worn anywhere except when on the track. Do NOT wear them in track marshalling. Once you are on the track you will be able to put on your spikes.
  • TIMING GATES are being used on the track. Do not touch the gates at any time with any part of your body – you will be disqualified!
  • PARENT ASSISTANCE will be required at the Track Marshalling. This is simply walking the kids out onto the track once they have been marked off in marshalling. Rob will be coordinating this role and needs a couple of helpers.
  • Please note that NO parents are allowed in the Track Marshalling area or any of the Field Event areas. Only Team Managers can enter these areas. If there are issues with athletes notify the Team Manager (Maree).
  • For U9 to U17 track events there is usually heats and finals. Selection for finals will be based on how many heats there are, but generally the top 8 runners will qualify for finals. On the attached team list the finals times are noted. Some of the longer races and hurdles races may be run as straight finals depending on how many nominate. You will be informed at marshalling if your race is a straight final.
  • For U9 to U17 field events (except High Jump) you will have three attempts. After three attempts the top 8 will have another 3 attempts as a final.
  • For U9 to U17, the first three placegetters will receive medals on the day. The top 4 will qualify to attend the State Championships held in March in Brisbane.
  • For U7 and U8 there are no finals, just heats. All U7 and U8 athletes will receive a participation medal which will be presented at lunch time on Sunday.
  • For those athletes competing in Javelin it will be held on the soccer fields which is a short walk from the athletics track. There will be a special marshalling area for you near the AFL clubrooms where the officials will meet you and take you to the event area. Do NOT go directly to the soccer fields. You must be escorted by an official.

Please contact Rob if you have any queries about the weekend.
